History
The Bak'karran are much like the American Indians of earth. They have six tribes, each containing separate clans. They have many "Godons" (Gods) in which they worship. According to the "Book of Fenri Chal-kor" the Godons are responsible for the creation and social structure of thier homeworld, Bedallam. TheTallus (Chieftain), and the leader of each clan, known as a "Kell", govern the Bak'karran, teaching "wisdom and truth are the pathways to a free soul".
Each Bak'karran must perform the "Hesha ju-voc", a right of passage into the ranks of the Bak'karran political structure. This ceremony is performed under the careful eyes of the Tallus.
HESHA JU-VOC :
A young Bak'karran, male or female, is only known and addressed by the name of thier father. (Example: "Good evening, son/daughter of Ohat.") Only after completing the Hesha ju-voc, will the father release the name chosen for the young Bak'karran.
The ceremony is performed by the Kell. The Kell calls in the young Bak'karran, sits the child in a throne made of Bak'karran bone, and places the book of Fenri Chal-kor in thier hands. The child is then required to read the book aloud to the Tallus, Kell, and thier father. (This reading takes all night to accomplish). After completing the reading, the Kell takes the child to a "Doha" (Wiseman), where the child is then taught the ways of the Bak'karran, the history of thier culture, and the battle techniques used in war. This is completed only when the Doha says so. Once it is known the child has completed thier training, the Tallus then speaks with the child alone. (This talk with the Tallus is a sacred meeting. What is said, is never to be revealed to another Bak'karran.)
After the talk with the Tallus, the child then spends one week alone, meditating a preparing to leave thier adololecence behind. Once ready, the child is then brought in front of the Tallus and a vote is cast wiether the child is worthy enough to be called a Bak'karran. Once voted worthy, the father of the child is then allowed to speak the name chosen for the young Bak'karran and henceforth, will be addressed as such.
For many years after the Hesha ju-voc, the young Bak'karran is kept and taught by many Doha, where the youngster is taught survival techniques, religious beliefs, etc.
The Bak'karran have only a few enemy. The Darkarian, the SCM, and the Telenoven. They have had many good working relationships with the Galactic Alliance, but as of now, the tribes are split up upon the discovery of the Galactic Alliance's ties with the Darkarian. This split has torn families apart, wars between tribes, and clan skirmishes.
It is rumored the Coronians met with the Bak'karran several thousand years ago. The two races bonded quickly and it is said the Coronians did thier best to keep the Bak'karran hidden from the raging wars in space. In time, the Coronians forgot thier feline friends, leaving them to defend themselves against tougher enemies and raiding pirates.
Now the Bak'karran have resurfaced to take thier place in universal discovery, seeking peace with new races and civilizations. Their conquest for knowledge has led to the discoveries of swift space travel, technology, and destructive weaponry. Thier ships are mostly small, but it is said they have cruisers out and about in other galaxies, making new allies and enemies.
More knowledge of this race can be gained by spending time with one of them.
Other Information
The Bak'karran are a humble race. Thier genetic features resemble those of large felines. They walk upright and occasionally on all fours. This is due to thier didgigrated legs. Thier faces are human-like and ears are of eggagerrated feline nature. 86 percent of thier bodies are covered in extremely soft fur and the rest is tough, leather-like skin. Thier coats of fur differ from one clan to the other, mostly by the color and length. Thier eyes are the same as humans, but thier sense of sight differs slightly by day due to thier sensitivity to light. (20/20 vision for humans compared to 15/15 for Bak'karran in lower light.)
The Bak'karran have no claws but do have padded, human-like hands. The senses of the Bak'karran are as follows:
SIGHT: 22/23 in normal light, 15/15 in lower light. (Dusk)
HEARING: Same as human
SMELL: The Bak'karran have a hard time smelling. As youths, this sense is not nurtured and most times, forgotten. This is not to say the Bak'karran can't smell, rather, they do not rely on this sense much.
TOUCH: The Bak'karran do not have whiskers, but thier fur is most sensitive to thier surroundings. Even the slightest change in temperature can alarm the Bak'karran.
TASTE: Unknown
